It is a system which includes nature sciences, architecture, climatology, fine arts, astronomy and astrology at the same time. It covers the influence of sun, moon, and earth’s atmosphere, direction of wind, magnetic field and gravitational force on human beings.

Vastu provides a practical guideline to selection of a site, its level of contouring, orientation of the building as per climatology, rooms as related to the different activities of the proposed building etc.

According to the ancient scriptures, Vastu has been broadly categorized as follows-
a) Bhumi- Vastu
a) Bhumi-Vastu- The extent of land where buildings for residential or commercial purpose are built is called Bhumi. This is Bhumi-Vastu
b) Griha-Vastu- The compound wall and structures built within the building relates to Griha-Vastu.
c) Yaana-Vastu- Any kind of vehicle (chariot, car, boat, aeroplane, ship etc.) parked within the bhumi can be linked with Yaana-Vastu.
d) Shayana-Vastu- Articles of use within the house such as chairs, sofa, cot, lamps etc. come under Shayana-Vastu.
