Chaturthi is the fourth day of the lunar months both during the Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. The Chaturthi falling during the Shukla Paksha is known as Vinayaka Chaturthi that marks the time when Lord Ganesh manifested. The main Vinayaka Chaturthi also called as Ganesh Chaturthi falls in the month of Bhadrapada. However, Vinayaka Chaturthi is observed on all months of the year. The Chaturthi coming during the Krishna Paksha is known as Sankashti Chaturthi which is also dedicated to worshipping Lord Ganesha for removing all obstacles in one’s life.
What is done on Vinayaka Chaturthi
On the day of Masik Vinayaka Chaturthi (monthly Vinayakar Chaturthi), a simpler form of vrat and puja are done to please Lord Ganesh.
The devotee observing the fast wakes up in the early morning, takes a holy bath and sets up the altar for performing puja to Lord Ganesh.
The puja consists of sixteen types of offerings, offering special dishes and then aarti to Lord Ganesha.
The devotee fasts for the whole day and concludes the fast on the next morning after sunrise.
Visit to Lord Ganesh temples and doing charities and auspicious activities are said to be highly beneficial on this day.
