Shravan Amavasya

Shravan Amavasya is observed in the sacred Hindu month of Shravan. Shravan Amavasya is the new or no moon day. It is also known as Haryali, Pithori and Polala Amavasya. Shravan Amavasya is a divine day dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Shravan Amavasya is also considered very sacred to perform Pitra-Tarpan (Shradh) of one’s departed ancestors. Devotees worshipping the mighty, Lord Shiva with pure heart get blessed with immense wealth and success. The believers offer prayers to the most gracious, Lord Shiva with open hearts, in the hope of receiving sufficient rainfall and good harvest. Offering prayers to Lord Shiva while in the Vastu-compliant place, highly pleases the powerful Lord. On the arrival of Shravana Amavasya, magnificent fairs are sorted out in various parts of India. The fairs organized in Udaipur keep going for three days loaded with fun, and entertainment.

Rituals observed on Shravan Amavasya

This blessed day of Shravan Amavasya proves to be of great benefit to devotees who observe fast.  Start your day by taking a holy bath, perform morning puja and pray to Lord Shiva by chanting sacred Rudra Strotam. Begin Shravan Amavasya fast that consists of a single meal, and open the fast in evening. Visiting Lord Shiva temple and performing Shiva Aarti will bring you peace of mind. Along with Aarti, offering prayers to plants, especially, Peepal tree will result in good fortune. It is also seen that the believers offer food to the Brahmins.
