The Indian Republic Day, celebrated on the 26th of January year on year since 1950 is one of the two important national festivals for Indians, the other being the Independence day celebrated on the 15th of August since 1947 when India won its freedom from the British rule. It was on 26 January in the year 1950 that India proclaimed to the world its sovereignty as the as the largest democratic nation of the people, by the people for the people. On this day, the Constitution of India drafted with a lot of efforts by eminent leaders of India from different backgrounds took effect.

National holiday

India’s Republic Day is an eagerly sought after National Holiday since it is a special occasion due to several reasons. While the offices, schools, colleges and most businesses give a holiday to their employees, there are multifarious celebrations organized commemorating this day.

Republic Day celebrations

On 26th January, the main Republic Day celebrations take place in New Delhi, the capital of the country at the Raj Path under the auspices of the President of India. A ceremonious parade that takes place on this day at this venue pay its tribute to India as a nation heralding its self-governance skills, achievements in different fields, defense capabilities, and the rich and diverse cultural and social heritage. This is a very colourful, spectacular and prestigious event that the whole world views on the media with awe and appreciation. Year on year, eminent statesmen from all over the world grace this occasion as the chief guests with the president of India unfurling the national flag of India.
