The other names of Lakshmi Panchami are Shri Panchami and Shri Vrata. This is otherwise called as the Chaitra Shukla Paksha Panchami falling on the month of Chaitra (April - May) on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon).
How to celebrate Lakshmi Panchami
On the day of Lakshmi Panchami, the devotees wake up early in the morning and take a sanctifying bath. The house is cleaned and the altar is decorated. An image or idol of Goddess Maha Lakshmi is placed on a pedestal and a holy bath and puja is offered with sixteen kinds of materials and offerings. Prayers are done for the welfare, prosperity and happiness of the family and the Prasad is distributed to those gathered for the occasion.
It is considered highly auspicious to fast on the day of Lakshmi Panchami. This act can please the goddess and win her blessings for the household filling it with wealth, health and happiness.
Some highlights of Lakshmi Panchami
Lakshmi Panchami Vrat and puja can be performed both by men and women. It is advised that the husband and wife perform this puja together as a couple to demonstrate unity and a strong bond. This can attract Lakshmi’s blessings for the household.
Some people performing the Margashirsh Lakshmi puja usually invite seven married women and even young girls on this day to gift them with fruits, cosmetic materials, clothes and money. Food, provision items and money are given in charity to the learned scholars and the needy. These acts are said to please the goddess of wealth and invite her blessings in abundance.
