Ekadashi Shradh

No other period of the year is as auspicious as the Pitru Paksha for performing the shradh and tarpan ceremonies of the ancestors who departed. Hindu shastras say that three generations of the ancestors stay in the Pitru Lok (ancestral world) after death. The main source of their energy in these worlds is the shradh and tarpan performed by their descendants on the earth. Therefore by performing shradh, people get the blessings of their ancestors in abundance. Especially, the period between the Purnima and Amavasya in the month of Bhadrapada (August – September) is dedicated for Pitru shradh and tarpan. The shradh ceremonies done during this period is said to give manifold benefits to the subjects. This period is also called as Mahalaya Paksha.

Ekadashi Shradh 2018 date

This year, Ekadashi shradh falls on Friday, 5th October 2018.

The purport of Ekadashi shradh is to perform the shradh of the ancestors who died in Ekadashi tithi. Year on year, the shradha ceremony of a deceased soul is done on the same month, paksha and tithing when the soul departed from the earth. However, when the Pitru Paksha shradh is performed, the tithi alone matters and the months and paksha are overlooked. Therefore this is a kind of common period for performing the shradh ceremonies of all departed souls. Shradh ceremonies done during Pitru Paksha are highly beneficial and please the ancestors greatly in order to shower their blessings on the family.

Importance of Pitru Paksha shradh

Few times are as good as Pitru Paksha to win the blessings of the ancestors since they all visit the earth to visit their descendants on the earth during this time in astral bodies and receive the offerings they give through shradh and tarpan. In turn they bless their families with happiness and prosperity.
