As the Vruschika Sankranti occurs at a specific time of the year, this transition of the Sun helps to rejuvenate energy. Vrischika or Vruschika Sankranti also marks the beginning of the Karthigai Masam in the Tamil calendar. similarly, it marks the beginning of the Vrischika Masam in the Malayalam calendar.
It is a festival celebrated in the honor of the Sun God. Devotees pray to Surya dev and seek his blessings for a happy, healthy life. Vrischika Sankranti is also an auspicious day for Sankraman snan, i.e. holy bath on Sankranti, charity, daan and Vishnu Puja.
